CHILD PROTECTION POLICY 

1.                  NAME

The club shall be called Whittington St Peters Junior FC (the Club). 

2.         PURPOSE

The purpose of the Club shall be to arrange association football matches and social activities for its members whilst at all times observing the requirements of the Football Association (F.A.) Child Protection Policy. 

3.         STATEMENT OF INTENT

The Club believes that all children and young people have a right to be safe and to be treated with dignity and respect. The Club recognises the forms of abuse defined in the Football Association (F.A.) Child Protection Policy as Physical Abuse, Neglect, Sexual Abuse, Emotional Abuse and Bullying and will use the flowchart processes as defined by the F.A. to deal with any such instances (flowcharts are attached as annexes). The Club officials will take all reasonable steps to ensure unsuitable people are prevented from working with children and young people. The Club will ensure that a consistent procedure is applied in the recruitment of all personnel who will have access to children and young people (application form and reference form templates are attached as annexes). The Club will adhere to the guidance given in the Football Association (F.A.) Child Protection Policy in the recruitment of personnel and in the treatment of children and young people and specifically will commit to the following codes of conduct: 

a.         The Club will operate a policy of ‘respect for all’, wherein every child will be entitled to respect from all other members of the Club irrespective of ability.

b.         The Club will practice a policy of encouragement for all and emphasise positive rather than negative performance issues.

c.         The Club will not tolerate bullying in any form and will investigate and act upon any alleged instances of bullying.

d.         Coaches will respect the rights, dignity and worth of each and every person and treat each equally within the context of the sport.

e.         Coaches must place the well being and safety of each player above all other considerations, including the development of performance.

f.          Coaches must adhere to all guidelines laid down by the Rules of The Football Association.

g.         Coaches must develop an appropriate working relationship with each player based upon mutual trust and respect.

h.         Coaches must not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.

i.          Coaches must encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.

j.          Coaches must ensure that the activities they direct or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of players.

k.         Coaches should, at the outset, clarify with the player (and, where appropriate, their parents) exactly what is expected of them and also what they are entitled to expect from their coach.

l.          Coaches must co-operate fully with other specialists (e.g. other coaches, officials, sports scientists, doctors, physiotherapists) in the best interest of the player.

m.        Coaches must always promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations of the Laws of the Game, behaviour contrary to the spirit of the Laws of the Game or relevant rules and regulations or the use of prohibited substances or techniques.

n.         Coaches must consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.

o.         No child or young person will be subjected to first aid treatment in any way in a situation where the child or young person is on his/her own in a treatment room with the door closed.

p.         Where there is a need for first aid only a suitably qualified adult will be permitted to administer aid and another suitable consenting adult will act as chaperone and will be present.

q.         Any treatment procedures will be explained fully to the child or young person and where possible parental/guardian consent will be obtained before treatment is given.

r.          No coach or club official will place himself/herself in a position where they are on their own with a child or young person (with the exception of their own child). This to include transporting of a child or young person to and from training and matches.
